About Gardulaa - Gidole

Establishment of the Ancient Town ‘Gardulla’

Gardulla is the uttermost southern part of Gidole-Gamo Gafa highlands with elevation about 2561 meters. The name Gardulla is given by Shewa Oromo Minilk’s solders who settled on the top of the mountain where the surrounding regime is collectively administered as Gamo Gofa province. The mountain was formerly known as ‘Horma Qallo’ or ‘Thilillo’ by the local people. An ancient town of Gardulla established in 1890 GC, and used to be the area's administrative center. The town was popular and the center for the widest regime of the province and called ‘Gardulla Habte Georgis Town’ who led the solders at the time. Chief H/Georgis and his representative chief Wolde Abanigat administered this town which is part of the south Ethiopia province for 40 years.
